Flexible Displays Rumored for 2013
November 15, 2012
Samsung is said to be planning the mass production of flexible screens for mobile devices according to industry sources. These displays would be fabricated from a flexible plastic instead of glass. Once development is complete, these screens could go into mass production in the first half or 2013. These AMOLED screens (active-matrix organic light-emitting diode) are set to be exclusively available from Samsung, as competitors LG and Sony are reportedly not close to implementing mass production. Meanwhile, Apple has recently filed a related patent – and is expected to push forward with similar technology. There is a lot of excitement surrounding this technology, as it would represent the next evolution of mobile devices and open an amazing new chapter in display technology.
